Coexist Windows domain and Linux

Dear friends and forum users,

I am new to both this forum and Linux. I understand that with Linux deployment is increasing nowadays, is creating a lot of opportunities in the tech world. Linux is known for its stability and i'm headed in that path into learning Linux, Debian specifically.

I would like to know how to coexist Windows domain and Linux. For example, joining Linux to windows domain, or creating AD like on Linux (if there is any). Creating DNS and DHCP on Linux.

I appreciate all the help i can get.

Thank you in advance.

I do not really understand what do you want to know. Theoretically linux can act as primary domain controller too and also you can have dns and dhcp.
You need to google on how to do that and you will find a lot of excellent explanation. If you have problems following a guide just come here and ask.

Key here are SAMBA and related tools. SAMBA is the integration project to support the required MS protocols on Linux.

As for the services you mentioned, those STARTED in the *nix world and were adopted from there by Microsoft, so are arguably better supported and mature on Linux.

PS. There are web pages all OVER the internet about "how to join linux to your active directory" (or domain). Most of them are obsolete, watch for the version numbers. The SAMBA site itself has some of the best and most general, for very specific ones look to your distribution pages.

The good news is that the higher the SAMBA version number the easier it is to join a domain.
