I guess you can.. just use apt-get to do whatever you want ..

it could be something like
Code:
root@1[knoppix]# apt-get install -t unstable gnome-core
or run "apt-cache search gnome" for more info

Good luck

root@**********:/home/knoppix# apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnome-desktop-environment: Depends: epiphany-browser (>= 1.0) but it is not going to be installed or
galeon (>= 1.3)
E: Broken packages

this is what i get, i have done a apt-get update but not a dist upgrade as the warnings scared me! lol

no, but the thing is i am a newbie and have just got knoppix set up how i like and was wondering if i could install gnome, i am currently looking at fedora and red hat as my next distro to try, i did have mandrake but never got it working as i could not make it past the commane to startx, so i gave up and knoppix started straight away!
