Can't control sound level from apps sliders

For some reason I can not control the sound volume using application sliders...

I can't control sound volume neither from xmms, totem nor from Gnome Volume comtrol on the panel...

EDIT: alsamixer also do not control sound level.

As far as I remember it happened after I installed ALSA... Used before OSS... but can't be sure...

My sound SW: alsa 1.0.8-7
Sound cards - on mother board ASRock K7S41GX
EDIT: more exactly SiS SI7012 according to "alsamixer" menu

I don't want to return to OSS because it had problems with sound in Flash Player...

If someone knows the solution help...

Another question is:

Is there possible to run more then one sound application - is sound mixing supported in Linux? For example to hear system sound notifications or flash player when another application is opened like Totem or Xmms?
