Best way to backup?

I just finished installing debian, and I was wondering what program to use to backup. I have a cdburner and back up my data, but I also want to backup the actually OS in terms of the debian package structure. Any suggestions?

You need to take a look at this:

http://www.linuxgazette.com/issue91/keates.html

very easy, and it just works

cheers,

additional questions

nice post. this kind of backup seems easy (even for me ;-))

the atricle on linuxgazette describes the backup of slackware. because of this (i guess) the directory /usr is missing (only /usr/local is backed up)

do i need any additional directories if i wanna backup my whole linux system (debian)?

what about package information from dpkg or apt-get. will it work when i am simply backing up everything?

thx

Or you can just raid the entire drive so that if one drive dies, the other will boot up and you can just hot swap the one that is dead (you can if it's scsi).
