First apt-get install alsa alsa-utils
then alsaconfig as root (if you are using sarge/sid the module should already be loaded thanks to the autodetection system, you can verify this by typing lsmod: you should see something with emu10k1) --> select emu10k1.
Now you need to run alsamixer to unmute your sound channel. Scroll to the right until you find: Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack, and press m to unmute it. Now scroll back to the master channel and set that to 50% or so. When you apt-getted alsa, it should have automatically added it to starting services so you won't have to worry about that.
That's it, everything should be working now
