I am unable to transfer files to my apache directory via the network (using samba of course)
Says that I cannot copy these items to the destination drive because their names are too long or contain invalid characters for the destination.
Also whenever I restart the apache web server using "/etc/init.d/apache restart" I get the follwing error:
Quote:
Reloading apache modulesstart-stop-daemon: warning: failed to kill 4829: No such process
No process in pidfile `/var/run/apache.pid' found running; none killed.
.
Sounds like the files you're trying to copy from Windows have funky characters in the filename or maybe they are too long, as the error suggests.
The pid file is created when apache starts. When it stops, the pid file is blown away. For some reason, apahce was running but the pid file was gone, so when you shutdown apache, the pid file wasn't removed. I think if you stop and restart apahce a couple of times, it will stop showing that error.
