Allowing disk check to proceed when running on battery power

Hi

Is there any way to allow normal fsck boot-time checks when running on battery power? After looking around, the only solution I've seen is to manually alter the /etc/init.d/checkfs.sh and /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh files and remove the AC power check. There must be a better way than that surely?

Thanks

Cotun

I don't do Debian, but as a general statement, you really wouldn't want to have your battery die on you half way through a fsck that necessitated recovery actions. The devs are protecting the majority from themselves.
Maybe you could add a reverse check in rc.local (or whatever) - that way you won't lose the change. And if you screw up a filesystem, it's your own fault.

That is a good thing to keep in mind, thanks for mentioning it. I agree also that the devs are probably protecting more casual users from screwing up their systems by general carelessness.

However, I think the scenario you mention is pretty unlikely at best for any experienced computer user, particularly in my case. It would require you to be starting up or rebooting at a time when the battery is about to fail, something that wouldn't be wise under any condition.

My scenario is more specific also in that I run Debian from a 16GB USB Flash Drive and I've been having trouble with it after a mini accident. So keeping the file system checked is important. I also have a six hour battery and a full fsck takes about 30-40 seconds to complete on the drive, so I don't anticipate these kinds of problems.
