acpi poweroff called

Excellent, getting there slowly... nearly got all the problems sorted...

The last thing that is bugging me is when I shut down, it does so cleanly, shuts down hda and then displays

acpi power off called

and stalls. It does not shut off the machine, and I have to hold down the power button to switch it off...

I installed acpid yesterday to get the processor fan working properly, so no problems there, but that isn't the issue because the problem existed before installing acpid as well as after...

Sarge install
Linux utserver 2.6.8-2-386
2005 i686 GNU/Linux

no different

AH! I just found and added nolapic to the boot line in grub because I found it suggested somewhere else. Though there is no explanation why. What does nolapic do?

Disables the Local Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller. It is a work around for buggy bioses.
