ability to handle MS Word files

Shalom fellows,
I am using a Debian Woody r2 (kernel 2.2) and I am very happy with it. I have one small problem that my correspondents often send me .doc files that contain lots of equations (Mathtype) and abiword and Kword cannot handle them. Are there fonts that can be got that will help me edit these files or are there applications that will help me handle these files? An answer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Maidros

Try OpenOffice.org (yes, that's the name of the program, as well as the site). It is intended to be an MS Office replacement suite, and it does quite a good job, though some specialized MS Office functions are not yet replicated. However most users report full compatibility with MS Office files.

You should be able to apt-get install open-office to install it.

Hope this helps.

that's:

apt-get install openoffice.org

if you want it in any other language:

apt-cache search openoffice

choose from the list (usually a 110-language of choice, and apt-get it too

Example :

#apt-get install openoffice.org openoffice.org-help-es openoffice.org-l10n-es

this will install OOo in spanish with the help in spanish.

salud,

macondo

Thanks for the information. I got openoffice and it is working well. It does still have some glitches with Mathtype fonts, but it is as good as things will get for now, I guess.
