Using sendmail in DSL?

I just set up a web server using an old Pentium III laptop running DSL. I've got Apache working fine and I'm using the built-in FTP server.

I'd like to use sendmail to have visitors fill out a form to send me an email, but I'm having much trouble installing it.

1) There is no sendmail mydsl extension.

2) When I tried to install it using apt, I got an error message that the version of perl I have installed is too new.

Has anybody else had this problem and figured out a solution? Is there a place online where I can download a precompiled version of sendmail that I can just plug right in?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried using Postfix yet? Much easier to install and configure plus it has sendmail compatibility.

Nope I haven't tried it. Is there a mydsl extension? Will scripts that use sendmail be able to use postfix without much modification? I plan on using formmail.pl from Matt's Script Archive.

I found the best solution for a lightweight home web server: SendEmail, a Perl script that simply uses the command line to send emails via your ISP's SMTP server. Easy to install. No dependencies. No need to configure an SMTP server on your computer. Life is good.
