I have an old IBM laptop on which I want to install DSL, so I was wondering what the latest version of it is that'll run on ~230MHz Intel Pentium; 96MB RAM. (I currently have Win 98 running on the laptop)
Minimum Hardware Requirements

[edit]Note
Remember that there is no such thing as a computer that is "too fast" for DSL.
Many users run with modern, high-end rigs with accelerated graphics and over a GB of ram. DSL is able to fully take advantage of more powerful systems to give users a faster computing experience.
[edit]Minimum Requirements for DSL with X-windows
486dx or 100% compatible processor
16mb ram (24mb recommended)
dual-speed CDROM (quad-speed or better recommended)
1.44mb floppy drive (for boot floppy, if needed)
VGA monitor and video card
a mouse (serial, ps/2, usb)
[edit]Recommended Specs
Pentium 200mhz
64mb ram
8x CDROM
1.44mb floppy drive (for boot floppy, if needed)
VGA monitor and video card capable of handling at least 16 bit color
a mouse with a scroll wheel

That will run dsl pretty well, it wont be too snappy, but good. Currently I am running dsl 1.5 on my 233mhz with 128mb ram and it does a pretty decent job. I believe the newest version of dsl is 2.1 which includes the jwm window mangager, which I believe uses even less system resources than fluxbox (the default manager). So I would say download 2.1 and give it a try.
