copy command cp -R does not recurse directories

I m using DSL with HD install on a 486 with 64mb ram for a File Print Server on my 6 computer networks consisting of WIN98 and WINXP. It is a Backup server to the Primary WIN2000 server which does the authentication. Since I want to backup Data from main server Daily, I use the myDSL Samba client in the X windows, and connect to the main server "PMC", however when I try to copy the files from the main server to the LINUX BOx using

cp sourcefiles destination -Rup

The command does not copy the files in the sub_directories specified by sourcefiles

what could be the problem ?

I don't see anything wrong with the cp options. Did you by chance try changing your command to look like this?
Code:
cp -Rup sourcefiles destination
Also, what are the permissions on these directories? Do you have permissions to the sub-directories?

HTH,
