xterm to display wide font properly

Posted 08-28-2012 at 03:02 PM by ted_chou12

I was trying to use export LANG=zh_TW.UTF8, so that my command line at least give me some feedback in chinese. But despite of a readable font, it doesnt display correctly, because the characters seem to show up with spaces inbetween. That looked ugly. So I searched on the web to customize the font in my ./~XDefaults finally:
Code:
!xsession*windows_manager: icewm-rox
!xsession*sound_server: jackd

xterm*title: Xterm
xterm*font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--18-120-100-100-c-90-iso10646-1
xterm*wideFont: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal-*-18-120-100-100-c-180-iso10646-1
xterm*faceSize: 11
xterm*geometry: 85x30
!xterm*boldMode: false
xterm*cutNewline:	false
xterm*on4Clicks: group
xterm*on5Clicks: page
xterm*internalBorder:	1
xterm*background:	#262729
xterm*foreground:	light grey
xterm*metaSendsEscape:	true
xterm*colorBD: #ffffff
xterm*colorBDMode:	false
xterm*cursorBlink: false
xterm*cursorColor:	#e2baf1
!xterm*veryBoldColors:	14
xterm*dynamiccolors:	true
xterm*utf8: 1
xterm*loginShell: true
xterm*jumpScroll: true
xterm*multiScroll: true
xterm*saveLines: 500

just when I was about to give up, it finally gave me to correct information. In addition,
http://moto.debian.tw/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3840
and
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs-fonts.html
are pretty useful to look at too. But I realized that some characters don't display properly. with 檔being one of them, but whatever, I still have roxterm as a backup.
Hope this is useful.
