Posted 05-26-2013 at 07:28 AM by ted_chou12

Hello ,
today I just set up an HP_LaserJet_M1005 ,
which was a USB multi-function printer and scanner.
It was unable to print anything , and says ,
"usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed"
I turned the cups log level to "debug" and saw:
Feb 16 22:24:46 hp[6227]: io/hpmud/musb.c 1108: unable to open hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_M1005?serial=KJ242KT

bluetooth how to, hcitool, obexftp, rfcomm

Posted 03-03-2013 at 07:05 AM by ted_chou12

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to connect a phone by bluetooth thru terminal. I am just posting my progress here:
First! I Don't know how Ive got it working, but there must be something that I have done correctly to ensure the connection was successfully made. Secondly, this is going to be a mess and you are warned. Third, there is really not much info on this and quite a lot of them are specific issues rather than guides. I will make this as helpful and informative as I can:

sync folder script

Posted 02-18-2013 at 09:19 PM by ted_chou12

Hi, not posting for quite a while. I was thinking of synchronizing my portable music mplayers directory with the music directory on the server. But I dont want all the music files, if all the files were synchronized then I would have no space on the player. So I was trying to come up with how I want it to be.
1) I want to synchronize by modify date of the LATEST, that means latest files come first in priority.
2) I want to limit a total file size on the files. NOT the number of files...

parallel port with cups (LPT)

Posted 10-16-2012 at 05:07 AM by ted_chou12

Hi, I am tired of USB port so I went ahead and tried to use a parallel port to connect my printer:
First check if the lp mod is added:
Code:
lsmod | grep par
if not:
Code:
parport_pc 22292 1
parport 29012 2 parport_pc,lp
Then do:
Code:
modprobe lp
Make sure you add this to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, to ensure the code runs everytime during boot.
Now check again:
Code:
lsmod | grep par
"lp" should now already be displayed....

how to wake on lan?

Posted 10-06-2012 at 02:16 PM by ted_chou12

Shutdown is easy but wake up is hard, well, in terms of both ppl and machines. Shutdown goes from system to bios, which makes life so much easier, but to initiate the machine, it just needs that physical "touch" to push the system. In fact, there is a built-in capability in your motherboard bios called "wakeonlan" or wol for short. First, you need to go into your bios to turn it on, since the menu may differ from company to company, you have to sort this out on your own. Make...
