chrism01 was spot on with his response. One thing he did not address was acquiring the visitors MAC address (assuming the visitors are not on your LAN). You will need some sort of client side script (java script for example) to get that information. If you plan on having your users access the images directly as you indicated in your original post, this will not be possible. Also, visitors will be able to disallow client side scripting in their browser settings and even if they did not, keep in mind that information could be spoofed.
