Installing Tomcat

This document is the step by step process to install Tomcat.This steps have been followed on Fedora 13 and if you follow it just as it is everything should work.

Tomcat, is a Java Servlet Engine used for Java Servlet and JSP specifications.

Java servlets are Java programs that run on the Server.
JavaServer Pages or JSPs are ASP-like scripts that use tags to implement data and functionality.

rpm -qa |grep -i java > java_rpms
Code:
vim rm_java_rpms
#!/bin/sh 
sources=`cat /home/prayag/java_rpms` 
for i in  $sources 
do 
sudo rpm -e --nodeps $i 
done
Code:
chmod 755 rm_java_rpms
Code:
./sudo rm_java_rpms[/QUOTE]
Code:
sudo mv http://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....x-i586-rpm.bin jre-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin
Code:
sudo chmod 755 jre-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin 
sudo ./jre-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin
Code:
ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21/bin/java /usr/bin/java
ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21/bin/javac /usr/bin/javac
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21
Code:
vim .bashrc

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21 
export CATALINA_HOME=/opt/tomcat
Code:
sudo tar zxvf jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28.tar.gz 
sudo ln -s  jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28 tomcat 
sudo chmod 755 $CATALINA_HOME/bin/*.sh
Code:
sudo vim tomcat/bin/catalina.sh 

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21
export CATALINA_HOME=/opt/tomcat

Open firefox:

Note:you may need to stop the http/apache service or it may conflict
