HDD stuff... after the softmod is accomplished

Posted 10-27-2011 at 09:18 PM by omgiamlinux

Once you have your xbox softmodded, backup the EEPROM with evox, and move it to E: Then grab it off the network. Also backup C: and MS Dash and pull that off the network too for safe keeping.

Then setup and burn an iso of xbox hdm 1.9 with your eeprom in it.

Then format the new drive and have it automatically load the C: and e: files on there.

Finally, you will need to lock it with... Linux, the utils available from the boot menu as option #3.

It won't really be locked until you shutdown the computer I think. I forgot about that detail from the first time I did this and so I wasted a lot of time debugging and worrying over nothing.

Rough Notes:

Options 1)
Use option 1 for creating the file structure on the xbox. It's also a clear way to see if your hdd is locked (it will show options 1-5 as disabled).

option 4)
Usually this option will have you winding up with a hopelessly locked hdd. To try to unlock it...

PANIC:

hdunlock - type XBOXSCENE for this one. Start by using it, then switch to unlockx and then atapwd. Unlockx should say something about locked, not set.

atapwd - use master password reset. Fill in blanks and XBOXSCENE frantically here. Reboot after like... 5 tries... because at some point the hdd say, "No, you're a criminal, i'm freezing up to stop you."

unlockx - use the HDDLockDisablePassword here. Also try the HDD password from EEPROM a couble times. Try it a couple times. reboot and try try again.

dissa... - XBOXSCENE for this one too. Use it after you run hdunlock to perm it. Otherwise the drive will just re-lock again after it loses power.

After you replace the old drive, go ahead and unlock it and it may be useful elsewhere. Unlock it by booting up the same xbox hdm CD and tell it to

1. UnlockX
2. dissa...
