Virtualization on Acer 5720

If anyone is thinking of buying the £350 Acer Aspire 5720 from Tesco Direct with a view to running fully virtualized guests (as I did), don't bother. The VT functionality has been disabled in the BIOS, even though the T7500 processor is completely capable of it. There is no option in the BIOS screen to enable it, and no BIOS updates on the web site.
I put this in an email to Acer technical support and was told "the issue you have described is one of a software related nature" and to call a telephone number for which I would be charged 50p a minute. Needless to say there is no way I'm doing that, as they clearly have no clue what I'm talking about.
I forwarded the reply to David Drummond, MD of Acer UK, just in case he wasn't aware how badly his new customers are being treated. Unsurprisingly, I haven't had a reply yet.
