linuxgalaxy.org down for cleaning and upgrades.

My hobby server is down while I fix up the ol' gal. The boot HD was an antique 40GB IDE Seagate that has started to flutter a bit. 15+yrs continuous use. Not bad. I'll move data to a new 1GB WD SATA drive and move on up to Slackware-14.2 "real soon now." I might even get done by the time current hits RC1 ! At this point I am not sure if I'll finally toss this old 2000 vintage HP Compaq d530 CMT (P4 2.66Ghz, 2GB). I had neglected cleaning it for a bit, and the case had quite a few cobwebs inside. Except for it being a bit of a space heater, it still runs rock solid.
In the meantime, my mumble server will be down (not that anyone logs in any more), and, for those few following www.linuxgalaxy.org links posted on LQ and elsewhere, a mirror is at www.koenigcomputers.com hosted by nearlyfreespeech.net. BTW, if you are in need of a good cheap hosting service (among other offerings), check them out.

We're back up on www.linuxgalaxy.org. Ulog is pitching a fit for some reason in the firewall script. For now, regular firewall logging is running. The site my pop on/off over the next few days as I tweak a few items.

I'd never visit a site labeled as needing "cleaning".
Sorry, I suggest the phrase "Routine Maintenance" and leave it at that.
Good Luck.Posted 09-08-2017 at 10:57 AM by Habitual

@Habitual
(1) No idea why you bothered to post. (2) No idea why I am bothering to respond.
What part of "hobby server" do you not understand? There is nothing "routine" about this vintage box or my use of it as a learning tool. And yes, cleaning, since I am not in the habit of lying to people. As I said, instead of depending on "the cloud" to host links when I post on LQ, I use my own domains. If you don't trust linuxgalaxy.org then go to koenigcomputers.com which is hosted by a professional organization that does "Routine Maintenance" but never, ever, "cleaning."
No one is forcing you to access my hobby web sites. There are far better resources for Slackware and Linux in general.Posted 09-10-2017 at 12:56 AM by kingbeowulf
