First 15 minutes on F15!!!

Well.. I wanted to share my feel when I went live on F15. yeah!

Here goes how I was literally lovelocked with Gnome 3.0 and F15 on the day I installed it.

Phenomenal GUI. Am pretty sure M$ will leech its glossy touch. F15 with G3.0 is gonna lure lotta gui-freaks to Linux.

Though the GUI looked so gr8 with oh-is-this-really-linux kinda transitions, I felt a lil hard to figure out how to configure static IP for my WiFi adapter. Well. Perhaps FC15/G3 could have been built considering i-want-all-darn-easy-dhcp-ip M$ users...

Forgot to mention... yippy! my cam worked that really made me to pinch-test.. am-I-on-L-I-N-U-X... yes.. I am and F15 could see its user too

This is just a summary of my first 15 minutes on F15.. ya.. thatz is a poem attempt.. First 15 mins on F15

Yet to do my 'hello-world' on F15.. but pooh-pooh.. Fedora is already well known for its rich dev capabilities and support.

F15 is gr8! Gonna install it... yes.

Just wait till you try and update the system for the first time using packagekit. It's broken out of the box and requires some 'yum' commands to fix.

Don't try bluetooth either. It may look like it's on from the Gnome 3.0 icon in the status bar, but it's not. You have to run some system commands to turn the service on. Plugging in or leaving in a bluetooth dongle does not solve the issue. HOWEVER, Fedora 16 may fix this with a tweak to the systemd scripts. An article on systemd suggest that this could be auto spawned if detected.

Also, there didn't appear to be any word processing option by default. But that's included among the things I generally change on an operating system anyway.

However, I would agree that overall the new gnome 3.0 interface is quite nice to have installed by default. Enjoying it very much right now.

They need to fix packagekit big time. I could see it being really confusing on what is actually needed to install a particular function.. Even if you know the name of something, you will get several packages with no clue on what is needed.

I completely agree with you, lumak. Packagekit is a mess. It is giving me hard time getting Glade interface installed. F15 being the latest, why in the world, its yum repo is not updated with the latest versions of RPMs, huh!

Well... since I am used with Fedora right from FC3, I am managing installations from package source.

However, for a desktop OS that has lacked some eye-catching GUIs, F15 is a commendable attempt.
