Linux is not an Operating System

Last week Google announced their intention to release an operating system based on Linux. The reaction of some people on reddit was: "No, another neutered, watered-down, crapitized "linux". Linux will once again be viewed as a sub par, 'specialized' OS." Well, this is not possible because Linux is not really an operating system, it is a kernel. And it is actually very successful as a specialized operating system's kernel. Let me explain.

The future of Linux netbopoks and the price of Windows

Last week I made a summary of the current state of the Linux netbook market. Today I will show you that Linux netbooks are at a crossroad. They can reach a bright future and a significant market presence through 3 different paths: the smartbook path, the cheap path and the power path. On Tech-no-media I explain how each path will lead the Linux netbook to market dominance in a specific niche.

There has been a lot of talk about the success or failure of the Linux netbooks recently, to the point that it is now a very controversial topic. I think that it is time to go back to the facts and perform an objective analysis of the Linux netbook market. You will see that Linux netbooks have been neither a complete success nor a complete failure.

Linux Mint Review & Interview

Last week was a Minty week for me. I started with a review of the excellent Linux Mint 7. IMHO this is the best distribution for users fresh out of the Windows world, as it gives them most of the advantages of Linux while keeping some of the attire of Windows.

To complement the review I was lucky enough to land an email interview with Clem, the "founder" of Linux Mint. What I like with Clem is that he is available even for smaller bloggers and of course he has tremendous...

PR disaster alert: Asus attacks on Linux

So ASUS decided to part way with Linux, the operating system that made the brand famous, to join forces with Microsoft. And they decided to make it in a very public way by stating a nice 'better with Windows campaign'. Well, sorry to disappoint you ASUS, but this is turning into a Public relation disaster!
