DosBox - Duke Nukem 3D
"It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum... and I'm all outta gum." - Duke Nukem (but I think he stole if from the bad ass in They Live)
Yeah Duke Nukem 3D on Linux... groovy!!
Get yourself a copy of DosBox. I yum'd it from the repo but a quick google and you will reap your reward. Install what you find and that's you got DOS on Linux.
Go over to www.gog.com and for $5.99 you can get Duke Nukem 3D... that's about £2.00 and it's DRM free.... (and *cough* the multiplayer network game works very well so *cough* if you and your colleagues have a few *cough* minutes spare at work)
Ok yeah I forgot.. you need a Windows box as the games from GOG.com come with an Windows installer and ... 'they do not support any other platform at this time'. So install the game to Windows and then go into the install folder and copy everything out (ignore the DosBox folder unless you want to run under Windows as well in which case copy it as well).
The games from GOG.com come with a couple of DosBox configuration files which describes to DosBox how it should run the game (single player, server, and client). This is excellent as all you need to do is 'cd' into the Duke Nukem folder and run...
dosbox -conf dosboxDuke3D.conf
and away you go....
============================
If you want a network game one player should run
dosbox -conf dosboxDuke3Dserver.conf
and the players run...
dosbox -conf dosboxDuke3Dserver.conf
then the players enter CONNECT IP.ADDRESS.OF.SERVER
In the menu that appears everyone should select Network Game and then go get some.

Sure the new games have nice silky smooth realism but they got no soul. Killzone 2 is in your face unbelievable but Duke; well he had something more.
Thanks for commenting. I feel old nowPosted 03-07-2010 at 04:16 PM by dsmyth -
still I love HL (and HL2 as well) and I definitely can say they are masterpieces that will be alive even after 10 and 20 years.
Half-Life Deathmatch seem to be the only game I play now. My buddy always suggesting me to start playing HL AG mod but it's not mine. I'm not going to become a *hardcore* HL player, I'm satisfied already
Well, duke nukem may worth a rememberance but I don't really like the idea to run windblows to set it up, HL runs(and installs) perfectly in wine and I start it in few secondsPosted 03-08-2010 at 01:50 AM by Web31337

Yeah running Winblows to set it up is a pain but... you know just a tool to get the job done. I'm guessing that it would work with Wine as well but I tried Wine and it's horrible (just my opinion doesn't mean it's true).
Enjoy HL mate... Enjoy I'm looking into Mame now. should really go to bed but not before a game of Golden Axe....Posted 03-09-2010 at 05:39 PM by dsmyth -
