siduction tips for beginners!
From its outward appearance, siduction may appear to be just another Debian-based Linux distribution, but don't let that fool you. Here be dragons!
I have put together a few short, but essential, tips for newcomers wishing to install and use siduction which is a full rolling Linux release based on Debian Unstable (sid).
Tip #1:
As an absolute minimum, it is essential to read the siduction Quick Start Guide before even thinking about proceeding further.
Quick Start Guide:

Tip #2:
Refer to the siduction Manual for additional assistance.

Tip #3:
VERY IMPORTANT: siduction, as a Linux LIVE-ISO, is based on high compression technology and because of that, special care is needed when burning the ISO image.
Only use high quality CD-media [or DVD+RW] and burn in DAO mode (disk-at-once) and not faster than 8x.
Tip #4:
Use k3b or other burning software which allows the selection of DAO mode and a maximum speed of 8x.

Tip #5:
Using apt-get or aptitude for doing software updates is fine.
Tip #6:
NB There is a very large pitfall awaiting any unwary user who performs a software upgrade or distribution upgrade (dist-upgrade) whilst in X.
As the Manual clearly states:
“NEVER EVER do a dist-upgrade nor upgrade whilst in X.
Always check Current Warnings on the siduction main web site. The warnings are there for a reason due to the very nature of unstable (Debian sid), which also updates 4 times per day”.
This is the correct procedure for doing an upgrade or dist-upgrade:
Log out of KDE.
Go to Textmode by doing Ctrl+Alt+F1
logon as root, type the root password and press Enter.
Then type each line separately, followed by a press of the Enter key.
NEVER DIST-UPGRADE [or UPGRADE] with adept or synaptic:
If you do not go to init 3, well tough for you, you have been warned!
Tip #7:
The siduction forum is a mine of detailed information, so use it to search for specific answers.
NB Do make sure that you have read the Manual and done a thorough search before posting a question, otherwise you may receive a lot of RTFMs!

siduction is an interesting distribution which probably appeals to more experienced Linux users.
Having said that, if you follow these tips together with the siduction Quick Start Guide and Manual, you should avoid any obvious dragons!

Why run Siduction when you can just run Debian Sid with a KDE desktop?
