    Saving MS windows with LINUX

    That's why virtual machines have snapshots. Create an initial snap shot of the drive before doing anything with it then roll back every once in a while. Actually, if you have an internet browsing VM, might as well use Linux on it. Then you don't have to worry as much. The real question is what to do with sharing data between the two for saving files. Do you expose a file share or not? I would say not and just use wget from windows to get any files you need.

    Really though, the problem is the design of the home computer in general. The filesystem it self should support seeding and snapshots and windows should run with one license under a hypervisor.

    But most of that is too complicated for most to understand so it will never happen.
