    Slackware-14.1-Sysctl.conf

Don't forget to mention that you either have to reboot, or run
    /sbin/sysctl -e --system
    to take effect.

    Slackware-14.1-Pdnsd 1.2.9a

Very cool! :-) Thanks for the pointer. I've been wanting something like this for some years, but BIND running as a local caching nameserver and near-network forwarders has been "good enough", so I didn't look too hard. Will give pdnsd a spin :-)

    Slackware-14.1-DnsCrypt Proxy 1.4.3

Cool setup. I have a similar deal with unbound caching via dnscrypt to a dnscrypt server I operate and via tor for all onion addresses. Nice to see other LQers looking into dnscrypt =)

Thank you so much for this tutorial on editing out & closing ports for services average user never will use on stand alone laptops or PC. This is gold mine for my bookmarks and public folder. With deep gratitude NightSky

    Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Opera Hardening

When I need anonymous browsing I use `opera -private`. Or `firerox -private`. And again, nothing to do with slackware. I don't know why are you appending this to every post.
Still, settings for opera you provided are acceptable.

there are also java settings a user can set. I believe you could have a LSO in java code cached on your computer.

    Open jcontrol (Java Control Panel)

General Tab > Temporary Internet Files box > Settings
Uncheck Keep temporary file on my computer

under the Advanced Tab > Security Section there seems to be some useful settings for the extra paranoid. As well as JRE Auto-Download

    Slackware-13.1-Hacks-TrueCrypt

thank you for the tutorial. It would also be interesting to see a tutorial on setting up a hidden OS partition. But the effectiveness of plausible deniability seems lacking if you know its a possibility of the set up. Just beat him twice as hard for all 3 passwords.

    Slackware-13.1-Hacks-WAV to MP3

hmm and how exactly is this related to slackware? btw there isn't much users having wav files. There's FLAC for everything. Of course you never want MP3 for something you really like. I personally hate lossy formats, they crack my ears.

    Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Mount ISO Image

    Quote:
the OP was talking about iso files on the harddrive. Not CDs. Additionally, 'linux' does not auto mount cds. The components in KDE, Gnome, XFCE, or other Desktop Environment will auto mount the CDs.
I should have been paying closer attention. Thanks for pointing this out lumak.

    Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Emptying trash files

... it's your home directory. You should never have anything owned by root in your own personal home unless you did something wrong.

Either way, prevent files from ever going to trash!

    chmod 000 $HOME/.local/share/Trash

This works equally as well for Flash Cookies. Only I allow it read and execute permissions, 550, so that it can still get to the directory if it absolutely needs too.

Coincidentally, if you have your flash settings to allow third party content and downloads, then you do this, you will sometimes stop commercials on certain flash videos.

fuseiso is nice as well for mounting it as a normal user. However, this is not a standard program on slackware.

If you have enough ram, it's equally effective to have a ram filesystem mounted to /tmp.
