Slackware-14.1-Sysctl.conf
Don't forget to mention that you either have to reboot, or run
/sbin/sysctl -e --system
to take effect.Posted 06-01-2018 at 08:56 AM by andrixnet -
Slackware-14.1-Hacks-OpenVPN
For anyone interested and running in autoreconf errors on say current/14.2.....this 'rant' could be very helpful...Posted 03-01-2017 at 03:52 PM by brobr -
Slackware-14.1-Pdnsd 1.2.9a
Very cool! :-) Thanks for the pointer. I've been wanting something like this for some years, but BIND running as a local caching nameserver and near-network forwarders has been "good enough", so I didn't look too hard. Will give pdnsd a spin :-)Posted 02-21-2015 at 01:13 AM by ttk -
Slackware-14.1-DnsCrypt Proxy 1.4.3
Cool setup. I have a similar deal with unbound caching via dnscrypt to a dnscrypt server I operate and via tor for all onion addresses. Nice to see other LQers looking into dnscrypt =)Posted 02-08-2015 at 09:03 PM by rocket357 -
Slackware-13.37-Hacks-Turning Off Services
Your welcome. I have some more tutorials I need to edit (trim-down) and post. The appreciative comments are very much appreciated.Posted 05-18-2014 at 08:16 PM by arniekat -
Slackware-13.37-Hacks-Turning Off Services
Thank you so much for this tutorial on editing out & closing ports for services average user never will use on stand alone laptops or PC. This is gold mine for my bookmarks and public folder. With deep gratitude NightSkyPosted 11-22-2013 at 01:02 AM by NightSky

Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Opera Hardening
When I need anonymous browsing I use `opera -private`. Or `firerox -private`. And again, nothing to do with slackware. I don't know why are you appending this to every post.
Still, settings for opera you provided are acceptable.Posted 02-17-2011 at 09:12 AM by Web31337 -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Firefox Hardening
there are also java settings a user can set. I believe you could have a LSO in java code cached on your computer.
Open jcontrol (Java Control Panel)
General Tab > Temporary Internet Files box > Settings
Uncheck Keep temporary file on my computer
under the Advanced Tab > Security Section there seems to be some useful settings for the extra paranoid. As well as JRE Auto-DownloadPosted 02-14-2011 at 10:23 AM by lumak -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-TrueCrypt
thank you for the tutorial. It would also be interesting to see a tutorial on setting up a hidden OS partition. But the effectiveness of plausible deniability seems lacking if you know its a possibility of the set up. Just beat him twice as hard for all 3 passwords.Posted 02-09-2011 at 11:43 PM by lumak -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-WAV to MP3
hmm and how exactly is this related to slackware? btw there isn't much users having wav files. There's FLAC for everything. Of course you never want MP3 for something you really like. I personally hate lossy formats, they crack my ears.Posted 01-26-2011 at 10:12 PM by Web31337 -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Mount ISO Image
Quote:the OP was talking about iso files on the harddrive. Not CDs. Additionally, 'linux' does not auto mount cds. The components in KDE, Gnome, XFCE, or other Desktop Environment will auto mount the CDs.Posted 01-04-2011 at 06:50 AM by ichase -

Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Emptying trash files
... it's your home directory. You should never have anything owned by root in your own personal home unless you did something wrong.
Either way, prevent files from ever going to trash!
chmod 000 $HOME/.local/share/Trash
This works equally as well for Flash Cookies. Only I allow it read and execute permissions, 550, so that it can still get to the directory if it absolutely needs too.
Coincidentally, if you have your flash settings to allow third party content and downloads, then you do this, you will sometimes stop commercials on certain flash videos.Posted 01-02-2011 at 11:21 AM by lumak -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Changing System Time
Thanks. Mine was a few minutes slow. For anybody else in the UK, I used:
Code:ntpdate ntp.markyate.net

fuseiso is nice as well for mounting it as a normal user. However, this is not a standard program on slackware.Posted 01-01-2011 at 11:02 PM by lumak -
Slackware-13.1-Hacks-Emptying tmp
If you have enough ram, it's equally effective to have a ram filesystem mounted to /tmp.Posted 01-01-2011 at 10:53 PM by lumak
