Moving on

Ubuntu left me and my old computer behind when they went to Unity. There is no driver for my computer, and it's too bloody difficult to install Gnome or anything else. Also, Karmic worked well on my old iron, Lucid less so... although some derivatives such as Puppy and Mint, based on Lucid, work fine.
Well, I finally upgraded my iron, but there wasn't money for a "real" computer. I now have an ASUS Eee PC 1215P, 1.5 GHz dual-core Atom. It came loaded with Win 7 HP... 32-bit, which is odd because the dual-core Atom is ostensibly a 64-bit processor.
The 1215P has a Quick Boot OS which is obviously Linux -- some of the games are obviously Gnome. I can also boot from SD or USB, and have an SD card with MacPup 528 on it.
However, I usually stay in Windoze. For one reason only -- Synaptics, which made the touchpad on my machine, has yet to release their Linux driver, and without it, the touchpad is wonky in Linux. Even getting a second finger NEAR the sensitive touchpad causes the mouse pointed to jump rapidly and randomly about the screen. Synaptics claims to have a Linux driver... but does not have a download link for it.
I also joined Identi.ca to get the Twitter experience without the holes... and it's harder than heck to figure out how to get the non-tweets sent SMS to my phone. The FAQ tells you what you need to do, but not how to do it (unless you're more of a geek than I am and know what they're talking about).
Speaking of phones, I dropped my beloved Pantech Impact into some water, rendering it mostly useless, and had to upgrade my phone (at some expense, including a higher phone bill) to an Android phone. Lots of additional things to do with this phone, most of which cost money (data charges if not paid apps, which so far I've stayed away from). Any ideas what free apps I might want? I have a bunch already.... probably the only person I know with Tamil apps, but I haven't been practicing enough to read most of it.

The ASUS EeePC 1215P (Seashell Edition) ran beautifully for just barely over 2 years. I have now taken it to a shop to see if it can be repaired -- the video went out on it. I turn it on, and the right 2/3 of the screen is a black bar, the rest is white with various-colored thin lines on it, some flashing on and off, and the boot sequence ends right there. It was a really good machine for me, and if it can be fixed I will give it to my daughter.
