VLC can not be installed via alps install vlc.
Apparently there is an issue with the script (broken link?).

Fixing a script could take hours to figure out where something in it could be wrong.

If you have to install it manually using your command-line utility.

Are you getting an error when you are doing:

alps install qt4 or when you are doing alps install vlc.

In any case, could you please post the error message. Also could you please retry doing:

sudo alps updatescripts
alps install vlc
