Xfce 4.12: lots of instances of xterm and xclock open at the same time.
Hi: when I start Xfce4 (startx command) lots of instances of xterm and xclock open at the same time, over 10 of them. Any known cause of this strange behavior?
The xterm icons are one by the side of the other, about ten of them. They are in the bar at the top of the physical screen. Each time I open an application a rectangle appears in this bar. If I click on one of the rectangles which bear the icon, an xterm window opens. The command I use to start X is startx. This not only starts X but the Xfce DE too. These config files you mention are in the home directory?
I closed each instance of xterm and xclock, click Logout with "Save sessions for future logins" in the logout dialog box checked. Otherwise they persist. Now only two xterms and one xclock persist. I also click on "Clear saved sessions" in Settings>Session and startup>Application Autostart>Sessions but the three of them persist. I did not try booting but now I'll proceed to delete the ~./cache directory.
EDIT: It didn't work. It's strange, I never opened xterm since instalation, though before installing Xfce startx had the effect of opening three xterm windows. In any case, whats the use of xterm and xclock once I have Xfce? I'll try to uninstall them.
I did and that put an end to the annoyance. Though I would be happier if I knew who was to blame.
I am one of the users using XFCE with no problems. You apparently have something starting xterm and xclock instances. I would search for that on your box.

Yes, possibly ps would show them and then an option in ps showing the processes in a tree (who called whom) would help. But until next intrusion I'll be busy with other problems. Thanks anyway.
