Make sure you "Pacman -Sy gdm" just to make sure it's installed.

Once it's installed, add "gdm" to the daemons line in /etc/rc.conf.

the normal way to customize is through the system tools menu, but when your at the gdm, on the bootom theres something that says actions, click on it, choose configure, and log in as root.
