Question shrink file system with out unmounting


Hi,

is it possible to shrink jfs file system with out unmounting it ?

Nope. Have to back it up, unmount, destroy, and recreate it. That's the only way I know how to do it.

Which version of AIX are you using ? with AIX 5.3 you can shrink a fileystem without unmounting it. If you creeate a 1gig filesystem, you mount it, then you simply choose "smit fs", in the filesystem size you choose "-800 Megs", and you see it shrinked without unmounting.
