I'm trying to install Oracle 11g on AIX 6.1 and have found that I've got an APAR missing, IZ41855. I downloaded the files and dependencies from the IBM website and found an install tips document among them which said:
Quote:
IBM recommends creating a separate file system for /usr/sys/inst.images for the following reasons:
Downloaded fix packages require a significant amount of disk space.
By creating a separate file system, you prevent the expansion of the /usr file system.
Being new to AIX I don't know how to do this and don't want to risk messing up the current LVs and file systems.
Can someone please advise the best way to do this?
Unless you have a very, very small amount of free space don't worry about it. By default most installp operations will automatically extend any filesystem that fills up, provided you have free PPs in rootvg.
Note also that the Oracle installer likes to warn about APARs that were superseded by later OS versions. That one is over 4 years old, for Technology Level 2, so if for example you are on TL 8 or 9 it's probably already fixed.

Yep, that turned out to be happening here, when I tried to install it it said that it wasn't needed (this is in 6.1 TL9). Although the oracle installer still failed it during the prereq check, had to tell it to ignore it.
