I need install a new version gzip in my AIX 4.3,because the release installed to have problems with a large files. I have downloaded the package gzip-1.2.4a-7.aix4.3.ppc.rpm, but I don't know what happen because I can not install this.
I have tried from smit and with installp command and it return always this not valid format file.
U can use rpm command
rpm - redhat package manager
by default rpm is there from AIX 5.2 onwards
It may not be there in AIX 4.3
run the command rpm -qa to check it is there or not.
We don't have rpm package in AIX 4.3, I know rpm, but it there isns't, Anyone have idea how can I install it?.
Also if any know where I can acquire gzip software in other format that rpm this would be good for us
Yes smit and smitty are the same. smit is the GUI enabled version, but will default to console if X is not available. smitty just forces the tty interface.
