AIX install does not complete on multiple platforms

Hey,

We are new to the AIX world and need a little help.

We have some 390, 590, F30 and J50 model RS/6000s. We also have F80, and 44P model RS/6000s.

We have AIX cd sets: versions 4.3.3 and 5.1L.

When installing (as a clean install), the files are copied for the base OS. (CD1) The machine reboots and after the restart, there is nothing, no post install. The only thing we have after the reboot is a blinking cursor in the top left corner of the screen.

This problem is the same for all of the machines, other than the 590. The 590 works fine, and we are using the same CD's. (After the install we get a menu with more options and have continued configuring the box).

We've tried changing CD-ROMs and checking the bios, but have found nothing.

We have tried to do some research, and have asked around. The only answer we get is: "If we told you how to fix it, we'd be out of a job."

A couple of ideas: A newer version of the bios? A specific version setting? Maybe its just us being commonly stupid? Any ideas would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance.
