My question is will an RS/6000 (one of the first models of IBM B50's) run AIX 5L version 5.2? I'm trying to instal it and it hangs right before it asks about the console deal (you know where you hit 1 then enter.) anyway here is what it looks like:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to AIX.
boot image timestamp: 15:50 04/16
The current time and date: 15:19:46 06/15/2005
number of processors: 1 size of memory: 1024Mb
boot device: /pci@80000000/scsi@10/sd@3:\ppc\chrp\bootfile.exe
closing stdin and stdout...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AIX Version 5.2
then it just sits there for ever (longest I waited was about 40 minutes while looking for answers on google.)
possibly a driver issue, maybe cdrom firmware ... what level of 5.2 you installing, you probably want a later copy or your cdrom firmware is back level ... spk to the h/w support bods.
It was AIX 5L V5.2 (update 5765-E62). But I tried installing 5L V5.1, cause I got tired of working on 5.2, and it installed no problem. Thankz for getting back to me though.
Odd. I have a B50 I put 5.2 on a couple of weeks ago. No problems with it except it doesn't like to work with our Cyclades. I put on 5.2 from the base CD's (no updates), then applied the maintenance releases to it. Haven't had any problems out of it yet.
Cyclades.. huh. I was using a cyclade console when trying to boot off the CD. Was to lazy to go the the machine room and hook a monitor up to the B50 to see if the cyclade was the problem, lol. I'm going to try 5.3 on it as soon as we get the CD's and see if the cyclade problem is fixed in that version. I'll post what I discover, unless somebody beats me to it.
