This thread is for tracking the development of the 4MLinux 23 series.
4MLinux 23.0 Core BETA released.
This is a core system (only a few MB in size) for the 4MLinux 23 series. The system includes: the Linux kernel 4.9.33, GNU C Library 2.25, and BusyBox 1.26.2. The 4MLinux 23 series uses GNU Compiler Collection 6.2.0 to compile programs designed for the i686 architecture.
Despite its extremely small size, 4MLinux Core supports all possible boot options: BIOS with 32-bit CPU, BIOS with 64-bit CPU, UEFI with 32-bit firmware, and UEFI with 64-bit firmware.
4MLinux 23.0 BETA is ready for testing. Basically, at this stage of development, 4MLinux BETA has the same features as 4MLinux STABLE, but it provides a huge number of updated packages, including a major change in the core of the system, which now uses the GNU C Library 2.25.
Development Plan:
July 2017 -> BETA
November 2017 -> STABLE
March 2018 -> OLD STABLE
July 2018 -> EOL
Antivirus Live CD 23.0-0.99.2 available for download.
Antivirus Live CD is an official 4MLinux fork including the ClamAV scanner. It's designed for users who need a lightweight live CD, which will help them to protect their computers against viruses. The latest version 23.0-0.99.2 is based on 4MLinux 23.0 and ClamAV 0.99.2.
BakAndImgCD is an official 4MLinux fork, which has been designed to perform the following two tasks: data backup (the supported filesystems are: btrfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, f2fs, fat16, fat32, hfs, hfs+, jfs, nilfs2, ntfs, reiser4, reiserfs, and xfs) and disk imaging (using Partimage, Partclone, and GNU ddrescue). This release is based on the 4MLinux Backup Scripts 23.0.
4MParted is a very small live CD designed for disk partitioning. It's a part of 4MRescueKit, which in turn is one of the three main 4MLinux releases available for download.
This version includes GParted 0.29.0 and it uses 4MLinux 23.0 as the base system.
4MRecover is a small live CD designed for data recovery. It's a part of 4MRescueKit, which in turn is one of the three main 4MLinux releases available for download.
This version includes TestDisk 7.0 and it uses 4MLinux 23.0 as the base system.
This is a major release based on the 4MLinux Server 23.0, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 4.9.52, Apache 2.4.28, MariaDB 10.2.9, and PHP (5.6.31 and 7.0.24). Webmin has been updated to the version 1.850. Much improved support for SCSI, RAID and LVM devices is now available out of the box. And finally, the biggest change is related to the installation script, which now makes it possible to install TheSSS on ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, jfs, xfs, btrfs, and nilfs2 partitions.
You can update your TheSSS by executing the "zk update" command (fully automatic process).
4MRescueKit provides its users with software for antivirus protection, data backup, disk partitioning, and data recovery. It is distributed in the form of a multiboot CD, which includes four (extremely small) operating systems.
This release has Antivirus Live CD 23.0-0.99.2, BakAndImgCD 23.0, 4MParted 23.0, and 4MRecover 23.0.
The status of the 4MLinux 23.0 series has been changed to STABLE. Create your own images with GIMP 2.8.22, edit your documents with LibreOffice 5.4.3.1 and GNOME Office (AbiWord 3.0.2 with Gnumeric 1.12.35), share your files using DropBox 37.4.29, surf the Internet with Firefox 56.0 and Chromium 61.0.3163.100, stay in touch with your friends via Skype 5.5.0.1 and Thunderbird 52.4.0, enjoy your music collection with Audacious 3.9, watch your favorite videos with MPlayer SVN-r37931 and VLC 2.2.6, play games powered by Mesa 17.0.4 and Wine 2.19. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 4.9.52, Apache 2.4.28, MariaDB 10.2.9, PHP 5.6.31 and PHP 7.0.24). Perl 5.24.1 and Python 2.7.13 are also available.
4MLinux 23.0 comes with much improved support for FAAC, GIF, JPEG 2000, Monkey's Audio and Musepack file formats. GNOME Office (AbiWord with Gnumeric) has been added as a downloadable extension. Full support for SCSI, RAID and LVM devices is now available out of the box. And finally, the biggest change is related to the installation script, which now makes it possible to install 4MLinux on ext2, ext3, ext4, ReiserFS, JFS, XFS, Btrfs, and NILFS2 partitions.
Hi ZK,
Thought I let you know that in 4MLinux 23.0 STABLE internet/modem connection doesn't work,
even after configuring. Usually it works out of the box.
The screen resolution is quite odd too. I can only choose between 1024x768 and 800x600. Normally the resolution is
1280x800.
I got all sorts of warnings during shutting down.
My machine is a HP 6730b. That shouldn't be an issue.
Using a usb stick with 23.3 now, no problem.

This is a minor (point) release in the 4MLinux STABLE channel, which comes with the Linux kernel 4.9.61. The 4MLinux Server now includes Apache 2.4.29, MariaDB 10.2.10, and PHP 7.0.25 (see this post for more details). Additionally, some popular programs (Audacity, PeaZip, UNetbootin) have been updated, too.
You can update your 4MLinux by executing the "zk update" command in your terminal (fully automatic process).
This is a minor (point) release based on the 4MLinux Server 23.2, meaning that the components of the LAMP server are now: Linux 4.9.69, Apache 2.4.29, MariaDB 10.2.11, and PHP (both 5.6.32 and 7.0.26). The following server software has also been updated: OpenSSL (1.0.2n) and Stunnel (5.44).

4MLinux 21.1.1 is ready for download. Exceptionally, so called point release has been marked as a major one due to some new amazing features. The live CD is now over 1GB in size and it comes with some popular programs available out of the box (Audacious, Chrome, VLC, GNOME Office). Full 3D support is enabled by default for AMD, Intel and NVIDIA video cards. On the other hand, 4MLinux is still friendly for older PCs. So called Legacy Installer makes it possible to install 4MLinux on the machines with 128 MB of RAM and 2 GB of free disk space.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
