installing java & plugins - almost have it - I think

Sorry to bring this up, Could someone figure out what I did wrong?
Here are the steps I took:

from www.eyesbyond.com download and saved in /usr/ports/distfiles -
bsd-jdk14-patches-6.tar.gz
bsd-jdk14-patches-7.tar.gz

from www.sun.com download and saved in /usr/ports/distfiles -
j2sdk-1_4_2-bin-scsl.zip
j2sdk-1_4_2-src-scsl.zip
j2sdk-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.bin

typed:
kldload linprocfs
mount -t linprocfs linprocfs /compat/linux/proc
cd /usr/ports/java/jdk14
make && make install && make clean

And FINALLY I managed to compile and install it with no errors

added " export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/jdk1.4.2/bin " to my ~/.bash_profile

logged out and back in and typed: java -version
Result was java version 1.4.2-p7 - so I'm guessing the bsd patched worked 'cause of the
-p7 at the end of the version. So far so good, right?

QUESTION #1: So I'm guessing all went well and proper up to this point?

typed:
ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/plugins/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so (continued below)
/usr/X11R6/lib/mozilla/plugins/javaplugin_oji.so

AND THE RUESULT??!! no java plugin for mozilla.

QUESTION #2:Any ideas?? please???

Well, I appreciate you response, but I couldn't have gotten as far as I did without google
and a few other sites. I do search and work before I post.

Following your link, within the first 2 pages, besides version numbers, and a few extra
files I downloaded, which I was aware of, I can't find any difference.

The above mentioned 'difference' is what I'm looking for.

Linux Java doesn't work with mozilla, you have to use native BSD java. Linux Java works with Konqueror.
This works for native Java.

You did everything right, except the link command is incorrect:
# ln -s /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/plugin/i386/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/usr/X116/lib/browser_plugins

Thank you for your input -X- and calbsd.

Since I only have time to work on/learn BSD on the weekends, I tried getting to it today
to work on the java issue. Well, I think my drive has gone bad - or my BSD is corrupted
byond comprehension - how I have no idea, but its BAD.

Your input is duly noted, and will be worked on as soon as I take care of my drive issue.
I'm SO glad I took good notes!

Thanks again.-tw
