Smartlink has released modem drivers for linux. They contain a propriatary driver so they cannot be
recompiled to run natively in freebsd.

At best you may get this driver working with linux emulation but you will be breaking new ground in FreeBSD.
Someone did setup the Lucent LTmodem linux software to run in FreeBSD and perhaps you could use that as a guide.

If you want to use Unix-like, Open Source Software with this modem I would recommend Slackware

I am running this driver with 2.4.26 Kernel in Slackware 10 on my Desknote and it works great.

If you want to run the 2.6.x linux kernel go to the smartlink website and download the latest version
