HCL comparing major vendors

I hope I not starting one of those holy wars...but, The HCL tells some good information. Unfortunately when searching retrobox.com or ebay, you really don't know the mainboard or graphic's mfgr.

If "you" were to lean towards one vendor for a used box bought basically blind over the internet, who would it be...compaq, hp, dell, ibm.

I'm not talking servers...I'm talking a home or work test box, for FreeBSD

thanks

i think that in this respect they are all equal. They all have pretty much the same chance of having uncompatible hardware. Therefore i think that it is just a matter of preference. But on ebay why don't you just "Ask seller question"? you could ask for hardware specs and try to figure out whether they are compatible

tamoneya...you suggest a reasnable question..."Ask seller question"?, except for me atleast, I try to watch vendors with high sales/hits. Most of these vendors are companies which buy a bulk/lot of computers and only test whether the pc is working or defective. I would think the level of detail for a specific pc would be limited, and not neccessarily known.

Looking at the HCL doesn't really suggest a given PC maker
