It turns out that there are synaptics drivers for the touchpad on my laptop. It works fine with the default drivers but the touch scroll part of my touchpad does not work. With this driver it will. I cant figure out how it is supposed to work because of the lack of documentation. Can anyone figure this out and help me out. http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/touchpad/index.html
I am pretty sure everything you need is included in Freebsd. It should be a simple question of placing an entry in your /etc/X11/XF86Config. Here is my configuration do not use it just add the part that say "ADD THIS LINE"

WOH, thats pretty cool. It basically adds buttons 4 and 5 right? Gonna go try it now.
Don't know about the scroll working, but it shouldn't crash. Just make sure this line is exactly as Stack said;
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Watch for the quotes and spaces.
Might also add
Option "Buttons" "5"
above the ZAxisMapping option and see what happens. Never used it myself on a laptop and don't know what they could do for a laptop. Used for a scroll wheel on a mouse. Regardless, X shouldn't crash. You can earn a PHD on XFree and xorg systems. There's a lot there. Here's more on X and mouse. http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse5.html
I read the link, this only applies to wheel mice. The thing with the touch pad it is not a wheel mouse, it is actually a part of the touchpad that is being touched. So in essence something has to tell it that the touch pad has vertical movement at given coordinates.

It also applies to touchpads most of them at least unless you bought some crazy non-compatible one.
Stack, you are the man. You were right, I didnt copy it exactly like you said. I was missing an appostrophe. That is really cool, I learn something new with Fbsd everyday. Im running out of paper writing all this stuff down.
