BSD Windows Network with gnome

I noticed that on Freebsd 5.3 when using GNOME, there is an icon for networks and when I go through all of the links I can see all of the computers on my local network. But none of them are accessable to me if I click on the console link it wont link to it.
Is there an easy way to set this up so that I can browse shared windows folders or say the default windows drive shares? Becuase I remember when I was using I think it was gnome on slackware like 2 years ago I was able to just click the links and get my files, but then I went back to bsd becuase I like it so much more, that gnome wouldnt let me do that without configuration of some kind. But now it shows all of them without any configuration but they are not accessable

Is there an easy way since it shows all of them? or should I ignore the call of the sirin as I approach the rocky shore I am sure to smash apon?

I love bsd, its always playing tricky games with me
