Ubuntu 17.04, netplan, bring up interface without ip

Hello everyone,

I'm having difficulties with this new netplan in just bringing up a network interface with no IP.

I'm running 17.04 and have noticed that /etc/network/interfaces is completely ignored and I now have to use /etc/netplan/01....yaml.

Problem is, I could not find the syntax to just bring up an interface with no IP assigned.

I tried "dhcp: no" but it didn't work.

How can I simply up the interface?

Hi da1,

I'm not an Ubuntu user, but have you tried:

Code:
#ip link set [name_Ubuntu_assigned_to_your_interface] up

I've eventually done it via rc.local but this is not the way to go. netplan should have a proper way.

@Rickkkk: netplan is ubuntu's new network manager(?) and it's a PITA so far (it's a yaml file).

Ah. I use netctl with Arch - it's command line, but simple and reliable. Perhaps you could replace netplan with netctl in Ubuntu and see if you prefer it.

Cheers.
