Can I assume that you upgraded 17? Some reports of inxi being out of date and causing issues. However there may be some Intel video driver stuff going on there depending on the exact processor.
I began with an upgrade which freezed just after decryption.
That was a good test I think. Makes me believe it can work correctly.
Then we have to conclude that one of two issues is going on if you indeed feel that the "Try" live is working as expected.
One is that live is picking correctly. Two that one the install some thing changes either by update or timing or setting.
I'd think about trying the install again. It should let you move from the live to the real install as I recall. Then the issue would be if it does fail on reboot.

I can do this again ... Is there any part of the installation which I should take more care of ? (I'm asking because it will be the 5th time I reinstall 18.04 on this computer)
Given that the live USB works, I'm thinking it might be a problem with something (kernel?, xorg?) that was auto-updated during installation. If you're up for another re-install, you might try it but disable auto-updating.
