Can't set-up SLED 10 official updates

Trying to register & update SLED 10 through "Novell Customer Center Configuration" I get this message "Could not add https://update.novell.com This service type requires a network connection, but none is present".

This is a single computer, connected to the internet by a dial-up external modem.

Can someone help? Have searched/googled for answer but no luck.

Can you access other websites? i.e. is your network connection known to be working? If so, what happens if you try go to that URL in a web browser?

Can't set-up SLED 10 official updates

Yes, I can access web sites. So I guess I have a network connection via an external modem, however SLED 10 does not seem to recognize it. It advises that I have no network.

Sled 10 is installed & I have an Novell account.

But I when I go through the "Novell Customer Center Configuration" to get access to the update server, I get the message "Could not add https://update.novell.com This service type requires a network connection, but none is present".
