LPT port on opensuse 11.4

Hi everyone!

I'm only a student of programing and mathematics and yet I don't know too much about kernels and other things on linux systems, so please excuse me if it is some ordinary thing.

My problem is (and was) my printer - Canon LBP-800 which uses parallel port.
In opensuse 11.3 it works with "some" mistakes which I try to solve in this thread, but now when I switched to LXDE and opensuse 11.4 I have no LPT port!?
I've read some articles on web about that and figure out that it has to do something with kernel.
I've tried some things like:
Code:
sudo /sbin/modprobe -v parport
and nothing happens.

I was so unhappy that my printer is working perfect on windows and have problems with cups and (or) driver and now LPT is gone

Thanks to everyone!

Hi -

It sounds like this bug describes your problem:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673845

They suggest this workaround:

Quote:
Quick workaround:

add "modprobe lp" in /etc/init.d/boot.local
