hi all,
I want to create an automated install, so our operations guys can easily load our suse boxes (HP Blades, and others) I also, have a fair amount of customization's i have to do, like add the management keys, pam stuff etc. what would be the best way? i have been playing with suse studio while its slick, i dont think its the way to go. thought?
SuSE Studio is one way to go, but there could be others, depending on your environment, how many different types of servers, etc.
Since you're using blades, you may also have a SAN. If so, do your OS load there, and have your blades boot from SAN. If you need something to send out in the field, you could try to use something like mondoarchive or systemimager to take a 'snapshot' of your running system, and make bootable DVD's/ISO images. Again, you could boot the ISO over the network via PXE boot, or load it via USB attached DVD. If you've got one basic type of server, it may work. Lots of types, you'll run into problems with drivers to get the system bootstrapped, and let mondoarchive work its magic to bring it back.
