X won't load i810 module for 915GM video card "module requirement mismatch"

Specs:
Dell Inspiron B120 Laptop
Intel 915GM Video card

Slackware 10.2
Kernel 2.6.15.5

I've been trying to get X to use i810 drivers to run my video card, so I can get acceleration working on it. I used the following guide I found on Linux Questions http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=402003 .

When I setup the xorg.conf file it gave me the following message(taken from Xorg.0.log). The error message is bolded on the bottom of the log.

Quote:
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/Delli:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

# this out to me.

# This XF86Config file is designed for use with the VESA framebuffer.
# This generic interface should work with nearly all video cards
# (although not every card will support every resolution).

# With the new driver, it should no longer be required to have frame buffer
# support in the kernel, or to run it on the console.
#
# Enjoy!

Why won't it load the i810 modules? What can I do to fix the problem?

Which drivers are you using ? It looks like a mismatch between them and the x version ?

Slackware 10.2 came with X version 6.8.2 so I need to upgrade.

I hope this works!

I'm the one who started that thread you referenced in the beginning of the post.

One suggestion: Try as root
Code:
~# xorgsetup
Sometimes, it actually works better than the one you used.
On my lappy, DRI was enabled right off the bat

I gave it a shot, but I don't know all the stuff like refresh rates and whatnot. I don't want to fry this computer or anything. Should I just use the info in my current xorg.conf?

Don't upgrade if you want to use suspend, the drivers for the i810 have a resume bug in the newer versions.

So that's why my suspend/resume doesn't work, but hibernate/resume does....

Its not for not knowing how, its that I never shut my laptop down long enough to make hibernation worth it. Mine just suspends when I drive to work and back for about 1/2 hour each so I don't need to hibernate to save battery and with over 512m ram it takes too long anyway, I can shutdown and boot up just as fast.
