I wouldn't mind seeing PulseAudio removed... Damn pain in the ass.

Care to elaborate? A simple "pain in the ass" does not cut it for me. How is pulseaudio in your way in the default Slackware configuration?
And you''ll hopefully realize that this is a request which is not going to be honored regardless...

Well, except that i become accustomed to expect the best and greatest yet,
and lacking a magic ball to:
Quote:
Shake, shake

But, this time, I expect the store to ship custom double shot key-caps for the (falsely-) so called "win-key" with Slackware's logo.

Withe on black ("normal")
Black on withe ("inverted")
Silver on black ("special")
Golden on black ("above super special")

for ALPS, MX, Matias, Kalih and Topre key-cap stems

And those be exclusively available to the ones who purchase the official DVD, at least until the release is 6 months old.

Now, am I grown too unrealistic, or what?

Seriously? Eric if you have noticed any of my posts you must know that I hold you in very high regard but what kind of response is this? It feels like "Please explain your position precisely and thoroughly even though it will be totally disregarded". There are several threads each having multiple posts of problems and complaints with Pulse starting with extreme and unacceptable latency and the typical convoluted "take over everything and kill them all, no prisoners" attitude that much of what Mr Poettering seems to enjoy and foist on everyone else.

Pulseaudio has no benefit other than convenience for crap onboard audio and is incapable of working by itself without ALSA or something very much like it. It certainly does not conform to KISS. It's as effective and enjoyable as a Back Seat Driver named Adolf. So why bother with it at all? .. or at the very least why not explicit instructions and accommodations to eliminate the offender?

I use that key!
I have xbindkeys installed from SBo and in ~/.xbindkeyssrc I have
Code:
## Mod4 + l - Windows + L locks screen
"xlock -allowroot -usefirst"
  Mod4 + l
Just as in Windows, I do "Windows + L" then close the lid to hibernate, so that password entry is forced on resume.

Maybe. I have no bluetooth so I can't test if this is viable.

pa works ok for me

I did a few versions of pulseaudio back have some trouble with it but now find that it works quite well. I have two different mikes and four different output options (line out, usb audio, bluetooth, and hdmi) and pulseaudio lets me set them up as i like. It hot plug discovers new devices and integrates flawlessly with VLC and skype. i can tweak my mike input and output with alsamixer if i need to fiddle with it. i have an asrock itx mitherboard and the onboard audio is quite good. i am running slackware -current 64 bit, bob's vlc, the latest skype, and -latest Plasma5, and occasionally fluxbox. I have no issues nor complaints with the audio system or pulse audio.

This is not the end of the story...

It would be interesting to learn if people not complaining about PA are running -current, and people with issues are mainly running 14.2? Like Regnad, I have no issue with PA, but I do respect the opinion of other people that do complain. It's just that I can not reproduce their issues.

That is the issue in the way, in due to its non-deterministic nature these issues are inconsistent and not everyone runs into them, instead there are a lot of subtle and hard to solve phantom bugs that only appear under specific circumstances.

i run 14.2 and had no issues with pulse.
i also installed and configured jack2 and the latest pulse to allow the wife to do some music in ardour and it also works quite well.

i wonder whether the people complaining are on fresh installs or updates from pre 14.2
