So the problem was introduced between 4.4.172 and 4.4.182?

Quite a while back problems with remotely mounted cifs folders occured 'suddenly' (i.e. after an upgrade) which were solved by playing around with the "vers" parameter in the cifs mount option: For example in:

Code:
/bin/mount -t cifs $REMOTEFOLDER/groups/myfolder /mnt/MYFOLDER -o credentials=/root/FILESHARE/.fileshare,rw,nounix,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0666,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000,gid=100,vers=2.1

Unless there's some horrible security issue, I tend to not update every time a new kernel comes out. I usually do that quarterly. I'll certainly update most or all of the packages over the next month or so, but I'll not jump on a new kernel until next quarter, or even year end, and when I do upgrade the kernel, I'll do so over a weekend I can immediately test this cifs issue and immediately restore! If that happens again, I'll post a follow up to this thread.

Brobr: I'll keep that vers suggestion in mind for next time.
