So we now have 4.18.5 before 4.19-rc1 is out.

Edit: looks like Greg has made 4.17.19 End-Of-Life.

The dusk-4.18.5, 4.17.19 and 4.4.152 kernel updates are available at, https://dusk.idlemoor.tk/

The 4.18.5 kernel was just installed on this box and so far, so good.

Cheers Wiz, new kernels aren't official until you've announced them

News! News! In addition to 4.17 now being EOL, lots of people have guessed that 4.19 will have long term support, and it looks like that's officially maybe going to happen: https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html

And to followup on 55020's post.

This is an interesting and informative article by Greg Kroah-Hartman: What Stable Kernel Should I Use?

According to Greg Kroah-Hatman document, the Slackware stable kernel politics is not the best. The Slackaware stable (14.2) would go including all the kernels in the 4.4 branch (the last is 4.4.152, and the last kernel in Slackare 14.2 is 4.4.144).

4.19-rc-1

The first release candidate of the new mainline 4.19 series is now available for testing.

I think the last 4.4.x kernel that I was able to make boot on UEFI was 4.4.146. Still trying to determine why that is.

I have the same problem on an Intel i7 UEFI 14.2 system, 4.4.147 boots fine but all later 4.4 kernels hang after the first "Loading" line. I didn't have any issues building and booting 4.14.67 though (using the Slackware current config as a guide).

Sorry Pat, I did not know about this problem with the last 4.4.X kernels.

I suppose the problem is related to backporting all the patches in relation with intel mess.

Here there is a message by Theo de Raadt about the situation and as it affect to Openbsd 6.3 (the stable version, as Slackware 14.2) and Openbsd 6.2 (the previous one stable, as Slackware 14.1). Openbsd 6.4 will be about november.

FWIW, The dusk-4.18.5 kernel has been running perfectly with -current and the Nvidia-396.54 "short lived" driver, for just about 3 days now.
