slackware 14.1 PV in XenServer 6

Hi All,

I've been trying to re-compile kernel with Xen-support (Xen Guest DomU) as I want to try running Slackware in PV mode instead of HVM mode in Xen Server 6. I have followed instruction http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Mainline_Linux_Kernel_Configs.

After i recompile, try to reboot, I got kernel panic. Does anyone have instruction how to convert Slackware HVM to PV on Citrix Xen Server. I've been searching around but can't find any instruction yet.

Thanks

Hi All,

I have figured it out. I have to use newer kernel which is 3.10.37

- I have used config-generic from 3.10.17, turn on option for xen domU (http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Mainline_Linux_Kernel_Configs)
- remove lilo
- install grub
+ mkdir /boot/grub
+ grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
+ edit grub.cfg
-> root=/dev/xvda2 console=hvc0 (for xen image)
+ grub-install /dev/sda
- Edit /etc/inittab
+ add
hvc0:1235:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 hvc0 vt100
- Edit /etc/securetty
+ add
hvc0
- Edit /etc/fstab
+ change sda to xvda
- shutdown slackware

Follow instruction at http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX121875 to convert HVM slackware machine to PV, then reboot, then you will be able to use Xen functions like live migration, ...

Hope it makes sense

There's a very complete article about building a Slackware EC2 instance on the SlackDocs wiki:

http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:cloud:aws_ec2

Hi thanks for the suggestions.

Already I've referred the link : http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:cloud:aws_ec2

Also this link says for PV kernel and we are running Slackware 14.1 on AWS with PV.

I need to setup Slackware in HVM.

Regards,
Sagi
